Protect your Prostate
No other male gland is as susceptible to cancer as the prostate. Tucked away where the sun doesn't shine, it's easily overlooked-but just a few dietary changes will ensure it never sees the light of day In your 20s… Go yellow

Order spicy, vegetable based curry dishes like aloo gobi or sag aloo next time you're in an Indian restaurant. Scientists at Rutgers University, New Jersey, found that a combination of turmeric and phenethyl isothiocyanate (a compound abundant in broccoli and cauliflower) is effective in fighting prostate cancer, as seen in experiments involving lab mice that were given this mix three to four times a week. No-one's saying that eating out four times a week is the magic formula for prostate health, but certainly four large helpings of the vegetables that contain PEITC a week is a big step in the right direction. And if a couple of those happen to come while you're nursing a glass of lassi, so be it.

In your 30s… Grab a red fruit
The magical phytochemical lycopene slashes prostate cancer risk by 34 per cent. Bright red fruits like tomatoes and watermelons are rich in this compound. But why try getting it all from bottled tomato sauce when you could also add slices of juicy watermelon to your snack? Men in their 30s with low lycopene levels are also three times more likely to have a heart attack or stroke-but the watermelon's hidden ingredient helps prevent LDL cholesterol from oxidising into artery-blocking plaque.

In your 40s…  Think lean
Drop your fat intake- ideally by shaving the stuff off meat before you eat it. A recent study suggests that cutting your fat intake to 20 per cent of your total calories-that's 44gm of fat if you eat 2,000 calories a day-is one of the best things you can do to slash your risk of developing aggressive prostate cancer. Citing another study done at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, US, Delhi-based urologic surgeon and Men's Health contributor Dr Gagan Gautam says, "Obese men may be at a higher risk of dying from prostate cancer than their fitter counterparts, since in obese men the prostate cancer is more aggressive and detected at a later stage. Another reason to stay fit!"
